Deborah Mutombo

¡Hola! My name is Deborah Mutombo. I am originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo and moved to Texas when I was five. Growing up in a multilingual home, I've always been enthralled by languages and learning about different cultures. My journey in learning Spanish started when I was in seventh grade, and it led me to pursue a degree in the language. As a Spanish major, I've fallen more in love with the people, history, values, and works of various countries in Latin America and Spain. I've met passionate, skilled professors and wonderful classmates who are some of the most fun, talented, and caring people on campus. Throughout this experience, I've been inspired to challenge myself in my learning journey and to do my best to give back to the department as an ambassador.

Margarita Mar Lara

Hello! My name is Margarita Mar Lara and I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. When I was ten years old my family and I moved to Houston, Texas. In the meantime, I live in Denton, Texas, and I'm majoring in Linguistics and Spanish. I'm also a first-generation college student and I graduate this 2022 spring semester. I'm majoring in Spanish because I enjoy learning about the literature, grammar, and the linguistics of the Spanish language. After I graduate, I would like to study for my Master's in Spanish, and I would also like to apply to the grad program here at UNT. I want to become an interpreter and hopefully in the future become a Spanish professor. I really enjoy the Spanish department here at UNT because the professors are amazing, and they really care about our learning. For my hobbies I enjoy hiking, exercising, watching Marvel movies, and spending time with my family.
